Minerva Research Initiative (Minvera)

Minvera (minerva.defense.gov) is a university-led defense social science program that seeks fundamental understanding of the social and cultural forces shaping U.S. strategic interests globally. Minverva emphasizes questions of strategic importance to U.S. national security policy. It seeks to increase the Department’s intellectual capital in the social sciences and improve its ability to address future challenges and build bridges between the Department and the social science community. Minerva brings together universities and other research institutions around the world and supports multidisciplinary and cross-institutional projects addressing specific interest areas determined by the Department of Defense. The Minerva program aims to promote research in specific areas of social science and to promote a candid and constructive relationship between DoD and the social science academic community.  White papers addressing the following topics are sought:

  • Topic 1: Social Implications of Environmental Change
  • Topic 2: Resource Competition, Social Cohesion, and Strategic Climate Resilience
  • Topic 3: Security Risks in Ungoverned, Semi-Governed, and Differently-Governed Spaces
  • Topic 4: Analysis of Foreign Influence Operations in Cross-Cultural Perspective
  • Topic 5: Community Studies on Online and Offline Influence
  • Topic 6: Computational Social Science Research on Difficult-to-Access Environments
  • Topic 7: Social and Cultural Implications of Artificial Intelligence

DOD Naval Post Graduate School Research Initiatives

The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is interested in receiving proposals for research initiatives that offer potential for advancement and improvement in the NPS core mission of graduate education and research. This is an announcement to declare NPS’s solicitation in competitive funding of meritorious research initiatives across a spectrum of science and engineering, business, politics and public/foreign policy, operational and information sciences, and interdisciplinary disciplines that are in line with the NPS’s graduate education and research mission.

Prior to preparing white papers or full proposals, potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact a NPS point of contact (POC) whose program and research efforts best match the Applicant’s field of interest. The academic and research programs links above can be used to locate an appropriate POC by exploring the information provided about faculty members in NPS’s schools, research institutes, and interdisciplinary centers and research groups.

Airman Readiness Medical Research (ARMR) Hybrid BAA

This medical research objective is dual natured: (1) ensure medical availability of Airmen by analyzing attributes (sensory, behavioral, physiologic) and operational environments (chemical, physical, psychological, biological, radiological stressors) to drive optimal performance of Airmen engaged in high-demand, high-impact mission tasks (2) investigate how the flight environment affects the process of life, the ability to maintain homeostasis, and the risk for injury or secondary insult, seeking to ameliorate these stressors to optimize Airman health and performance.

The USMA BAA seeks proposals from institutions of higher education for research based on the following campaigns: Socio-Cultural; Information Technology; Ballistics, Weapons, and Protections; Energy and Sustainability; Materials, Measurements, and Facilities; Unmanned Systems and Space; Human Support Systems; and Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Quantum Technologies. Proposals are sought for cutting-edge innovative research that could produce discoveries with a significant impact to enable new and improved Army technologies and related operational capabilities and related technologies.
